Why use an alternate port address? |
To help eliminate common network problems, UsenetRocket has enabled
connectivity to our servers using alternate port addresses. In most
cases, using the default NNTP port, 119, provides the best performance.
However, there are a few situations where using an alternate port
address is required.
Default NNTP port, 119, is blocked or speed capped by ISP or firewall
Using ports 80, 23, 25, or 3128 allows you to bypass these firewall
blocks. If you are unable to access our servers using the default nntp
port, try using any of these ports. If you are still unable to access
our servers, contact the support group.
Default network routing is not always the best performing route.
While accessing our servers across the Internet, network routers
automatically pick the 'best' route for your data packets. This is
based on your location and ISP used to access our network. In most
cases, this provides the best performance possible. However, there
are times when the default routing process does not provide the best
performance. By using port 7000, 8000, or 9000, your data packets are
forced out a specific bandwidth provider to your computer. Only
use these ports if you experience sudden degraded performance for an
extended period of time. If the degraded performance continues for more
than few hours, contact the UsenetRocket support group.
